Adebayo Akinfenwa insists he will not be rushed into deciding where he plays his football next season.

The striker proved a big hit for Gillingham last season and is now considering a new offer from the club to remain.

He is due to take a holiday on Wednesday and hopes to have things concluded by then but is making no guarantees.

"We are talking and I will just see how it goes," said the 29-year-old (pictured).

"I would rather know what I am doing before my holiday but I am not rushing. Last season I signed two and a half weeks into pre-season and that was fine.

"Ideally I would like to get something sorted out so I know where I am next season, then I can focus on the beginning of the season. If it doesn’t go that way, then it doesn’t go that way. I try not to rush into anything and I rarely panic.

"The chairman is communicating with my agent and we will see how it all goes."

It was Gillingham’s ambition last season that tempted Akinfenwa and he is hoping for a similar approach from the club this year.

He said: "I remember walking into Gillingham and thinking ‘this is a very strong squad’.

"There is no point going somewhere if they are happy to be mediocre. If that is what you are doing, then you shouldn’t be in football."
