Gillingham Reserves played-out a stalemate against Aldershot in ToteSport League Central on Wednesday afternoon.

The visitors started brightly and Danny Hylton headed an early chance over Alan Julian’s bar before Luke Rooney tested Shots keeper Clark Masters with a stinging drive from a free-kick.

Andy Pugh - back from a loan spell at Dover - glanced a header wide before triallist Jerome Okimo of Chalfont St Peter burst forward and his low cross was deflected into the side netting.

Gills also fielded another triallist, former Dagenham & Redbridge defender Jake Hall.

The Gills gradually took charge and shortly before the break Rashid Yussuff won possession in midfield and pressed into the box before teeing up Pugh, whose shot from the right was clawed behind by Masters.

From the corner Masters produced another fine save to deny Chris Palmer from point-blank range.

After the break Julian, pictured, saved from Hylton as the Shots again came out of the blocks quickest and he also kept out Bobby Hopkinson’s low-drive and Anthony Charles’ header while John Grant fired wide when clean through.

In the final 10 minutes Rooney headed Palmer’s cross wide before Julian produced a stunning save to keep out a close-range header from Charles and keep the deadlock intact.

Gillingham: Julian, Hall, Okimo, Essam (Davies 78), Wynter, Yussuff, Maher, Rooney, Pugh (Odunaike 68), Erskine (Stimson 78), Palmer. Subs not used: Quinn, Brown.
