A trio of last season’s Gillingham team have drawn praise from the club chairman after signing on reduced terms for the new campaign.

Barry Fuller (pictured), Mark Bentley and Dennis Oli have all penned new contracts earlier this summer following the club’s drop into League 2.

Mr Scally said: "The players who were offered contracts weren’t offered them at the same level that they were previously on so they have had to take a financial hit.

"It’s been hard for some of them, or for all of them I suspect, but they love the club and they are happy to do that to get out of the division and into League 1.

"It’s been a tremendous response from the players and I’m proud of them for that."

Defender Garry Richards is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal soon.
