Gillingham midfielder Adam Miller scoops the player-of-the-month award for April

Adam Miller went from zero to hero among the Gills fans after being voted April player of the month.

Miller (pictured) returned from a loan spell at Dagenham to a frosty reception from the home supporters but a series of impressive displays, couple with some important goals, has earned him the monthly accolade.

Gills fans spent the week voting on the kentonline.co.uk/gillingham website and Miller saw off competition from Darren Dennehy and Rene Howe to take this month’s honours.

Boss Mark Stimson was delighted to see the midfielder get the praise he deserves.

Stimson said: “He’s come back from Dagenham and was desperate to play in division 1 and since he’s got back in he’s been outstanding. I just wish other players in the squad would show that same attitude and desire.”

Miller was robbed of the ball at Norwich on last weekend, leading directly to the opening goal, but Stimson had some sympathy for him.

He said: “Norwich watered the end they were attacking and that’s a form of something. Is that a level playing field?

“They soaked the half they were attacking in the second half and there wasn’t an ounce on the other. Adam Miller lost his footing in that area of the field and we got punished.”

Miller is out of contract in the summer and Stimson doesn’t believe the player’s on-off relationship with the fans will have any bearing on discussions.

“Adam is too strong for that,” said Stimson.

“If he knows he is wanted by me and the deal was right then I would have thought he would accept it.”
