Gillingham manager Mark Stimson may have to give up on landing his top transfer target, Charlton striker Chris Dickson.

Stimson, pictured, reckons the chances of getting Dickson are only "50-50" even though he knows the player would like to return to Priestfield.

Speaking after Sunday's 1-0 pre-season win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the Gills boss said: "Nothing has happened over the last few days, but it has got to be resolved sooner rather than later because if it doesn't happen then we have got to try and get somebody else in.

"I am not losing patience over it, because sometimes it might take longer than you want, but we need a yes or no early this week."

Asked if he thought the player fancied the move, Stimson said:" I have heard through his agent that he would love to come.

"We know what the lad can do at this level, and what he did for the club before, so that's why we have waited a bit longer than we would for somebody else.

"The chairman has spoken to Charlton, and put a bid in, but maybe it's because we are in the same division now and if he was to come to us and score goals it might not look so good on them."
