Gillingham boss Mark Stimson is hoping to offer Norwich hit-man Jamie Cureton the chance to reignite his career.

Experienced striker Cureton has been a forgotten figure during Norwich’s rapid rise to the top of League 1 and Stimson, pictured, wants him to help the Gills avoid trouble at the other end.

Cureton’s availability was something Stimson was keen to find out following Saturday’s draw against Colchester. His name was mentioned by the Gills chairman as a possible signing and Stimson was quick to react.

"I asked the chairman if there were any more finances and he said possibly," revealed Stimson.

"He mentioned a player (Cureton) and I would jump all over that player.

"I honestly thought he was way out of my bracket that I could bring to this football club and as soon as he said it I said, ‘yes, quick, let’s go and do it’."

Financing any deal, however, would take some doing as Stimson knows the 34-year-old’s wages would blow his current budget apart.

"He is probably on as much as all of our strikers put together and double it," said Stimson, who is still keen on Colchester’s Scott Vernon if he cannot bring Cureton to Priestfield.
