Simeon Jackson was rested on Saturday against MK Dons as Gillingham boss Mark Stimson didn’t want to risk the 17-goal striker further damaging a problematic hamstring.

Jackson (pictured) was restricted to a late substitution appearance against Charlton on March 20 but he aggravated the hamstring injury which he had picked up in the previous match at Stockport.

Stimson, mindful of some big games coming up, didn’t want the situation getting even worse.

He said: "We have a lot of games coming up and we knew what the weather forecast was. On a wet heavy pitch, it might have made it worse so we thought leave him out completely and hopefully this time next weekend he is back involved.

"The rest would have done him the world of good because he hasn’t trained or done anything. This week I’m sure he will start slowly and build up towards then end of the week."
