Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler wants to start the League 2 campaign with an away game, giving the club the chance to immediately end their dreadful record on the road.

The Gills failed to win a single match away from Priestfield last season, registering just six points on their travels.

It was a record that ultimately cost them their place in League 1 and Hessenthaler (pictured) wants to set the record straight as soon as possible.

The fixtures are due to be released on Thursday morning and Hessenthaler said: "It would be nice to get an away game straight away.

"We could set the record straight and get that hoodoo of wins away from home (out of the way).

"Let’s hope we can do that early on, I’m sure the players are thinking that as well."
