Gillingham's players partied the night away on Saturday after crushing any doubts about the club’s ability to perform away from home.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler let the reins off so they could enjoy a Christmas get-together in Manchester before getting back down to business on Monday.

Gillingham, who a month ago had gone 18 months without a win away, secured a third successive victory on their travels on Saturday after beating Macclesfield 4-2.

"They know that (after the weekend) it’s back on the training ground and the party is over," said the Gills boss. "Chesterfield next week is going to be a real test for us and we just want to get our home form back on track now.

"If we do that we are going to be where we should be come the end of the season.

"We knew the away wins were coming because the performances before warranted three points.

All of a sudden the red bus has come along three times now and it’s pleasing for us, although we are not getting carried away.

"It’s just lovely that we’ve gone three on the bounce winning, all away from home.

"The boys have had their Christmas party and they deserve it, they’ve been fantastic. With that out of the way we’ll be focusing on the training ground and working hard."
