Chris Dickson has signalled his intent to fire Gillingham to League 1 safety.

The Charlton striker finally signed for Gillingham again on Monday morning after a two-year chase by manager Mark Stimson.

Dickson (pictured) joins on a three-month loan deal and he’s determined to repay Stimson by guiding the Gills out of trouble.

"It’s been a never-ending saga but we’ve come through that and fingers crossed things will flourish from now on," said the 25-year-old.

"He (Stimson) gave me an opportunity then and he’s giving me another opportunity now. I just want to come in and do what I’m good at.

"I got some banter at the training ground and they were saying ‘I thought you were supposed to have been here six months ago!’ I would have been but the powers that be did not let that happen.

"Now, I’ll just be taking it one step at a time, one game at a time.

"Everyone has been saying it’s about me but I’m saying it’s not. It’s all about Gillingham and about keeping them in League 1. Looking at the fixtures, there is every chance that we can do it."

Dickson’s last spell with the Gills in the 2007/08 League 1 campaign saw the striker finish the season top scorer with 11 goals from 14 games.

"I want to pick up where I left off," he said. "The last spell was cut short because I was called back by Charlton and I’ve got unfinished business here. I want to come back and finish what I started.

"Unfortunately my career hasn’t blossomed how I wanted it to, especially in League 1 where I feel I can do a job."

Stimson is now hoping Dickson can rekindle the form that turned the striker into a Priestfield favourite two seasons ago.

The Gills boss said: "He’s done it before for us and hopefully he’ll come back in and do it again.

"It’s a good signing for us. We’ve tried to sign Chris before but it hasn’t happened. This time it’s worked and I thank the chairman for that."
