We’ve had a good look at what went wrong last weekend and we are determined to put it right.

It was very frustrating. We didn’t stick to our game plan that we had been working on all week and a few home truths have been told.

Sometimes you can learn more after a defeat and when you do get defeats you analyse stuff. I have watched the match several times over and so has the manager.

Even when you win you have to look back and see where maybe you could do better. You don’t just win a game and throw the DVD away. If we win, we want to know how and why.

We have learned a lot from the game on Saturday and hopefully that will hold us in good stead for the rest of the season.

As a coach I’ll watch games all week. I had a game on Tuesday, agreed to see one on Wednesday and was out again on Thursday.

It’s full on. It’s not just about getting on the training ground. Sometimes I won’t be back home until one o’clock in the morning and you have to be up the next day fresh and ready to go for the boys in training.

There is a lot of travelling and looking at games but it has to be done. It’s tough at home with a young family, but if we aren’t doing that, we aren’t doing our jobs properly. It’s part of the job and I am relishing things here, it’s a great challenge.

We face Accrington on Saturday and although they may have changed their personnel around a bit their philosophy is still the same.

They have good passing, movement and great rotation in the midfield and are a good, young side with a few experienced heads in there.

They lost a few in the summer and two of those (Joe Jacobson and Terry Gornell) played against us for Shrewsbury. Jimmy Ryan also went to join Andy Barcham at Scunthorpe but we still know it won’t be easy and they’ll have a go.

Deadline day was quiet for us, but the chairman has already given us great backing with the two Peterborough boys coming in along with the likes of Danny Kedwell and Adam Birchall.

He has done great with the players he has bought but the budget is not there so we will have to use the loan market. We have already let a few out on loan, including Simon King, who is a great player. He hasn’t been able to get into our team because of how well Andy Frampton and Matt Lawrence are doing. He can get that match sharpness at Plymouth and he’ll come back here fitter. With some games on his ankle, it will only benefit us.

It was a good night for the county on Tuesday to see two home-grown players representing their countries at Wembley, with Andrew Crofts (Norwich) playing for Wales and Chris Smalling (Manchester United) in the England shirt.

It’s just a shame Chris slipped the net for Gillingham as we could have had him here and made a few quid on him!
