Gills fans were far from inspired by their sides goalless draw at home to play-off chasing Oxford United on Saturday. Here's what our panel made of it.

PAUL BLAKELEY

"That was a game noone will remember in a few months’ time. A bobbly pitch and blustery winds were never going to help, but a surplus of hoofs upfield limited chances even further.

"Oxford attacked about as much as we did, until the second half, when we gained a foothold and they seemed happy with a point.

"On the plus side, our defence wasn’t troubled too much and Richards looked solid on his return. Weston was poor again, not only with his hesitance to stay on the wing, but also with a distinct lack of control. Martin too was a disappointment, but hopefully it’s just match-time he’s lacking."

SAM LIVINGSTONE

"Obviously the weather played havoc, although I was disappointed with the amount of times that we hoofed the ball forward to Cody and Akinfenwa.

"Having said that, it was another clean sheet and point towards promotion, against a team who have been on an equally scintillating run of form. Richards and Lawrence were awesome and if we just had a little bit more creativity in the middle of the park then we could have won this game.

"I feel that we have to win against Rotherham to keep in touch with the automatic places and begin to cement our place in the play-offs."

KEITH PESTELL

"The match was far from a classic with the windy conditions causing both sides problems. Oxford’s defence looked solid and I was surprised that it was their first clean sheet in 24 games!

"Apart from the first couple of minutes, and the last five, Oxford were never really pressured, and when we did attack the Oxford defenders did well to block most of our attempts on goal.

"We were lucky to keep 10 men on the field as in the first half as Lawrence should have seen a red card. From my view he clearly stamped on the Oxford player, and both players could have seen red.

"Lawerence went onto play a key role in defence with Kevin Maher winning a deserved man-of-the-match award. It was a fair point, with both sides struggling with the conditions."

MARK FELLOWES

"A truly dreadful game that rightfully finished a draw as both teams were equally inept. Gills possibly should have won it at the death but it wouldn’t have been three points earned.

"Both teams seemed set on giving the ball away as much as possible and there were individual errors aplenty. A game to forget."

RICHARD PEPPER

"With high expectations this game simply failed to deliver. We never really got going against an Oxford side who were happy to keep the ball in the air to stop us from playing football. We then resorted to the usual long ball to Akinfenwa who was well marked.

"The conditions did not help and this was another opportunity wasted to capitalise on the results of those around us. It is time we stopped referring to the previous run as that has come and is now long gone. One more good run could see us promoted but likewise continuing with our current level of inconsistancy will see us finish outside of the play-offs.

"Simon King looked sharp and fit last week against Deal and as much as I like Garry Richards, there is no questioning who is the better player of the two. Hess needs to shake things up a bit, with Joe Martin in at left-back, King in defence with Lawrence and dip into the loan market for a striker."

OXFORD FAN

Paul Beasley

"The wind grabbed control of the ball from the off and only fleetingly relinquished its grip on the rare occasions the players managed to keep it on the ground.

"But who cares, as we achieved the seemingly impossible – no goals conceded. We were helped in this by the crossbar in added time and Akinfenwa missing from close range. Overall we coped pretty well with him.

"At the other end I can’t recall any chance worthy of the name and the replacement of Tommy Craddock and Steve MacLean with Alfie Potter and Simon Hackney made no difference to our attacking threat."
