Gillingham are expecting to have international clearance for Stanley Aborah to play a part in Tuesday's Carling Cup game at Norwich.

The Ghanaian playmaker, pictured, agreed a month’s deal before Saturday’s match against Cheltenham but Gillingham didn’t receive the necessary paperwork through in time.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler said the player was also suffering from a virus and so may have been left out anyway.

The Gills are awaiting clearance from the Football Association, who in turn were waiting for an international transfer certificate from the Dutch FA. Aborah’s last club was FC Den Bosch.

"I’m pretty much sure it would have come through (by Tuesday)," said Hessenthaler.

"The little position where Rooney came on (against Cheltenham) could suit someone like Stanley to play off Bayo (Akinfenwa) a bit. He will definitely feed balls into Bayo and he will play a part in the next month."
