Popular defender Simon King has signed a new three-year deal with Gillingham.

Last season’s player-of-the-year (pictured) is now contracted to the Gills until 2012.

King, a £200,000 signing from Barnet, enjoyed an outstanding season with the Gills as they won promotion back to League 1, culminating in his awards from the club and being named in the PFA’s League 2 team of the year by his fellow professionals.

King becomes the third Gills player in the last week to sign a new deal after Andy Barcham and keeper Simon Royce also extended their stays at Priestfield.
