Gillingham fans got their first glimpse of the team in their new kit on Thursday night but may have to wait another week to get one themselves.

Chairman Paul Scally was unable to put a firm date on when the replica shirts will be available but was confident they would be in stock before the season opener next Saturday.

The Gills will be wearing the blue and black striped shirt for the coming League 2 campaign and a red and black second strip.

Mr Scally said: “I’m told it will be in the shop before the first home game.

“The problem was we hadn’t achieved our sponsorship agreement in time and therefore the ordering of the kit was late.

“We had to hold up to get the sponsor’s name on it. That was the delay and I’m told it will be here before the first home game.”
