Gillingham chairman Paul Scally believes the last month will be defined as one of the most important in the club’s history.

The return of Priestfield Stadium into the hands of the club has been hailed by Mr Scally, pictured, as his best business deal yet.

Mr Scally said: "We have sorted out a lot of financial issues that have been worked on by myself for the last four years.

"As far as the overall stability of the club is concerned, it has been an important four years and important month because the documentation has been signed off and, of course, Priestfield is back in the ownership of Gillingham Football Club.

"I am bound by confidential agreements and they are in place for the right reasons. The net effect is that the stadium is back with the football club and there is no debt on it. If history were to be written, then this month will go down as probably one of the top months in the history of the football club in so far as importance."

The stadium deal saw Gillingham FC buy back the stadium from Priestfield Developments for just over £1million. That reversed a deal at the beginning of 2008 which saw Priestfield sold for almost £10m.

Mr Scally said: "The bank deal has tested me and there were times when I didn’t think it would happen. It was a complicated deal to do and will probably go down as my best-ever deal in my entire life.

"This I feel is my final shot to try and take the club and the business to where I think it can go and we’ll be steaming into Kent to challenge other competitors on and off the field in every aspect."
