Bradley Dack limped off with ankle ligament damage on Saturday and now Gillingham must wait to find out the severity of the injury.
Dack lasted just 22 minutes of the match against Scunthorpe following an early challenge. It was his first league start since the victory at Wycombe in August.
But the teenage midfielder could now be missing for several weeks, depending on what damage has been done.
"We don’t know what grade it is," said boss Martin Allen on Saturday. "You have got grade 1, 2 or 3. Grade 1 is easy, grade 2 he can’t really play with it and grade 3 he could be out for four to six weeks.
"It is that bit on the outside of the ankle, which holds it all together."
