Mark Stimson is preparing for Saturday's visit of Wycombe in the midst of his worst ever injury crisis.

The Gillingham boss has been fielding unfit players and inexperienced youngsters in recent weeks as his squad has been stripped to the bare bones after a string of major injuries to his key men.

Stimson said: "I’ve never had anything like this. It’s by far the worst since I’ve been a manager, but it happens and we have to try and get through it and give it our best shot."

Midfielder Danny Jackman could be out for months as he and the club consider a shoulder operation, after it dislocated during last weekend’s loss at Southampton.

Stimson said: "It’s a nightmare when you have someone you have been waiting to work with and they get a bad injury and could be missing, if he has the operation, for three or four months."

Stimson hopes to have leading scorer Simeon Jackson, pictured, back for the weekend after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury, and will be eagerly waiting on news from the physio on a number of other players.

Mark McCammon is trying to shake off a hamstring injury that cramped up on Tuesday, Jack Payne took a knock in the same game and Andy Barcham has been troubled by an ankle injury.

Barry Fuller was rested in midweek as he has been feeling a shoulder injury, Dennis Oli and Simon Royce have both been absent through illness and Stuart Lewis (ankle) has been rushed back earlier than expected after missing the start of the season with an ankle injury. Simon King remains out until the New Year.
