The loan transfer window reopened this week and West Ham United youngster Oliver Lee remains on Gillingham’s radar.

The young midfielder was back in training with the Gills this week, after initially joining on trial last week, as he seeks a move away from the Hammers.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler (pictured) is taking a look at the former Dagenham loanee with a view to the future.

Lee, 20, is out of contract at West Ham in the summer and has been told he can move on.

Hessenthaler said: "We had a bit of disruption last week (with the weather) and so have kept him with us for a few more days, until the end of the week. We will see where go from there.

"He is a young boy and he has had a really good upbringing at West Ham. Could he be one for the future? He could well be. If he turns out to be anything like his dad (Rob Lee) then he’ll be a decent player.

"He is a comfortable footballer with bags of energy and he could fit into our squad for the future. If we did do something with him then he would be in contention for a place in the side. He is young and for me they are the type of players we need to look at."

Hessenthaler had been looking at bringing another Championship player to the club, on a temporary basis, but wasn’t giving away any clues.

He said: "We looked at one player. He was in and around the squad (at his own club) in the last few weeks but we might re-visit that. We might see what they are thinking and we will go from there. We might have the opportunity to bring someone in."
