Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler believes his side can take confidence from Saturday’s defeat at Port Vale.

The Gills had the lead until the final nine minutes and Hessenthaler was left fuming at some decisions that were made by referee Darren Drysdale.

But he was boosted by the performance of some of his young players, including Connor Essam and Jack Evans, who both made their first start for the Gills.
