Gillingham have signed midfielder Chris Palmer on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old spent last season with Walsall, but declined the opportunity of an extended stay in the Midlands, and moved to the Gills instead.

Palmer made 48 appearances for Walsall last season and he can play in a variety of positions, including right and left back and on either wing.

Gills boss Mark Stimson (pictured) said: "We’ve not got the biggest of squads so to have a player like that will be a major bonus next season.

"He’s been involved in over forty matches for Walsall last year and that experience at League 1 level will also be a significant asset to the side."

Palmer began his career as a trainee with hometown club Derby before moving to Notts County and Wycombe. He has also had loan spells with Hereford and Darlington.
