Gillingham comfortably saw their way past Peterborough at Priestfield on Tuesday night.

Goals from Chris Palmer, Andy Barcham, Andrew White and Luke Rooney sealed the win.

Gillingham bossed the first half and Peterborough, who were playing a weakened side, only threatened once with a header that went well wide by Carl Piergianni.

The Gills were looking lively in attack and took the lead after 17 minutes when Barcham passed to Palmer and he slotted home from outside the area.

Just two minutes later and the Gills doubled the lead when Palmer turned provider with a corner and Barcham headed home.

Palmer almost made it 3-0 halfway through the half but keeper Steve Collis saved with his feet.

The third goal did come on 57 minutes when White tucked away his first for the club.

Ben Wright pulled one back for the visitors but the three goal advantage was restored when White’s cross was converted by Rooney.

The Gills almost increased their lead when trialist Serge Makofo controlled well before shooting from an acute angle and hitting the post.
