Gillingham and Southend finished their League 2 match level despite both sides having a number of chances.

For the Gills their best effort fell to Adebayo Akinfenwa in the second half but his curled effort hit the side netting.

The Gills started the first half well and Cody McDonald’s fifth minute over-head kick tested the alertness of Southend keeper Glenn Morris.

Southend came into the half more as it wore on but keeper Lance Cronin wasn’t overly worried as Josh Simpson smashed one over and Louie Soares hit a couple wide of the mark.

The first half ended on a high for Gillingham as Bruce Inkango fired over the bar.

Southend’s best effort in the second half fell to youngster Nathaniel Jarvis but Cronin made a great stop with his feet.

Corr was guilty of missing a couple of good efforts but in the end neither side could find the net,

Gills: Cronin, Fuller, Gowling, Lawrence, Palmer, Inkango (Rooney 68mins), Weston, J Payne, Spiller, McDonald, Akinfenwa. Subs: Julian, Sinclair, Maher, Bentley, S Payne, Aborah.

Attendance: 4,925
