Wicketkeeper Geraint Jones is taking over as Kent's vice-captain until the end of the season, after Martin van Jaarsveld decided to stand down from the role.

Jones will captain Kent in their CB40 match against Sussex at Hove on Tuesday while skipper Rob Key is rested.

Van Jaarsveld said he made the decision so he could concentrate on his batting.

"I have enjoyed captaining the side in Rob Key’s absence, but I would like to focus on scoring runs from now," he said.

"I remain totally committed to Kent and hope we continue to finish the season well.”

Jones said he was delighted to take on the role and considered it to be a great honour.

"I very much look forward to assisting Keysy in leading the side,” he added.

The match starts at 4.40pm and will be televised live on Sky Sports.
