Wicketkeeper Geraint Jones has been named Kent player-of-the-year for 2009 after an excellent season.

Jones had an impressive season with that bat and behind stumps and beat of competition from the likes of Martin van Jaarsveld and James Tredwell to win the award.

Jones, who was promoted up the order to three, hit five centuries in his best ever season with the bat, scoring 1,291 runs in the LV County Championship at an average of 51.64.

He said: "This means a lot to me because it is voted for by the members. I enjoyed a good season but so too did the likes of James Tredwell and Martin van Jaarsveld.

"Winning, ahead of some strong competition, is obviously very pleasing for me.”
