Joining the thousands cheering him on, Dartford sprinter Adam Gemili’s mum will probably be the loudest and proudest when the teenager lines up for the biggest race of his life.

The 18-year-old is the fastest man in Britain this year and although the thought of challenging the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, may be a tall order, Adam is certainly hot on his heels.

And when he gets into the starting blocks for the men’s 100m heats, there will be tens of thousands, if not millions, supporting him every step of the way, especially his mum.

Speaking exclusively to the KM Group, she said: “I’d like to say a big good luck from his mum. I’ll be there screaming my head off for sure. We’re all very excited.”

The teenager encapsulates the Olympic dream as much as anyone.

He has already made it into the record books by winning the 100m world junior title in Barcelona in a record time of 10.05 seconds.

The former Chelsea academy trainee only started running seriously in January after turning his back on a life-long dream to become a professional footballer.

Asked what motivated him by a fan on Twitter, he said: “I wanted to succeed and to show all those who doubted me that I can do it.”

He said: “Thanks everyone for the support. I appreciate it so much and I’m just going to go and do my best at the Games.”

The former Dartford Grammar School boy will be aiming to reach the final on August 5.

He will also take part in the men’s 4x100m relay on August 10.
