PUPILS at a Kent primary school were given homework which included writing sexy dating adverts.

Sharon Underwood, of Burnt Oak Terrace, Gillingham, was horrified to discover her seven-year-old daughter had been asked to write one of the ads.

Chloe Underwood was one of more than 30 children at St Mary’s Catholic primary in Greenfield Road, Gillingham, given the worksheet, designed to help improve their use of adjectives.

Her mother became concerned about the work when Chloe asked her what “passionate” meant.

Chloe’s female teacher had downloaded the worksheet from a BBC Skillswise website but failed to notice it was designed for adults.

The worksheet, designed to help adults improve their reading, writing and maths skills, encourages pupils to use words including cheap, dangerous, wild, gorgeous and mysterious and even suggested including a photograph.

Sharon Underwood, 33, said: “I was shocked and disgusted and could not believe a teacher had given this to my child.

"The work should have been checked and approved. I was sure it must have been given to the children by mistake.

“I approached the teacher but she couldn’t see anything wrong with it. She couldn’t see a problem as long as she wasn’t giving it to a dating agency.

“I was really offended that it suggested my daughter should describe herself as cheap. She is not and will never be cheap.

“I will be checking Chloe’s homework from now on and have no confidence in the teacher.”

A spokesman for Medway Council said the exercise was not clearly marked for adults.

He said: “We apologise for setting work clearly inappropriate for children of that age.

"The exercise was downloaded from the BBC’s Skillswise website. It was a mistake and certainly one that won’t be happening again.”
