Freak accident kills rider

A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in on one of Medway's busiest roads when his 400cc Honda hit an exhaust pipe that fell from the car in front of him.

Mark Robinson, 45, of Blenheim Avenue, Chatham, died in hospital after the crash in Maidstone Road on Saturday night.

The accident happened between Bridgewood Roundabout and the M2, outside an Esso filling station. Manager Arun Siva called the ambulance.

The garage was closed as investigators examined the scene and removed the wreckage. The motorcyle knocked down part of the wall between the filling station and the house next door.

Police have not been able to trace the driver of the blue, D-registration Ford Sierra which shed the exhaust pipe, who may not be aware of the accident.

Anyone who can help police with their inquiries should telephone 01634 827055.
