Kent Spitfires were on the wrong end of a spectacular return to form for their former batsman Andrew Symonds on Friday night.

Symonds led the Surrey Lions to a 15-run Duckworth/Lewis victory at The Brit Oval.

The Australian hit 62 from just 32 balls as the hosts recovered from 35-4 to reach 150-7 in 20 overs.

Darren Stevens, pictured, had ripped through the Surrey top order with 3-17 from four overs but Symonds took a liking to Kent’s spinners, James Tredwell and Malinga Bandara.

Tredwell went for 33 runs in three overs and Bandara conceded 25 runs in two overs.

Symonds hit seven sixes in his half-century and received support from Stuart Walters (42).

In reply, Kent slumped to 35-4 with openers Rob Key and Martin van Jaarsveld - who was promoted up the order after Joe Denly (calf) was ruled out - both run out. Sam Northeast (10), Geraint Jones (12) and Alex Blake (3) all failed before Stevens lifted the Spitfires to 81-5 in the 13th over with 33 not out from 20 balls. However, the rain came with Kent well behind the run-rate the Lions took the points.

Kent, who were due to host Somerset at Beckenham yesterday (Sunday), host Surrey at the same venue on Wednesday with a 5.30pm start.
