Floundering surfer rescued thanks to eagle-eyed walker

A surfer was rescued off the Kent coast when a member of the public on the beach spotted he was in trouble.

The worried walker raised the alarm and Dover Coastguards sent a craft from Walmer Lifeboat Station to investigate.

The man in his mid 20s, who has not been named, was found half a mile from Deal seafront and taken shore suffering from cold. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A spokesman for Dover Coastguard said: "The surfer was lucky someone saw him and reported it to to us."

The man, who was rescued on Friday, was said to be homeless.
