Firefighters use sledgehammers in blaze rescue

A man suffered from inhaling smoke as fire wrecked the ground floor of a house.

It happened on Monday night at 9.50pm at a semi in New Road, Minster, Sheppey.

Firefighters had to use sledgehammers to get in through the locked front door.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Crew manager Peter Jones from Sheppey fire station said: "Amongst the items we found while sifting through the debris was the remains of a Christmas tree."
