Kent firefighters have had a busy night tackling two waste fires.

The first broke out at Burial Ground Lane in Tovil, where more than 220 tonnes of houshold rubbish were alight.

The second was reported just before 1am today in Brielle Way in Sheerness.

More than 20 firefighters were needed to deal with the blaze which affected 50 tonnes of waste tyres and scrap metal.

The cause of neither fire is yet known.
