Firefighters rescue six trapped in lift

Firefighters were called to Capella House, in Foord Street, Rochester, where six people were trapped in a lift.

The lift came to a halt about two feet short of the fourth floor landing and the doors remained firmly shut.

One of the people trapped inside used a mobile phone to call the emergency services, and fire officers from Strood attended within 15 minutes. They used keys to open the lift doors and haul the passengers to safety.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday. One fire officer said it was only a six-person lift, so those inside were particularly relieved to get out.
