Firefighters cut off man's ring

FIREFIGHTERS snipped off a ring stuck on a man's finger after he turned up at their station.

The middle-aged man had been unable to pull off the signet ring but crew members at Strood took it off with a special cutter.

He had arrived at the station in his car at about 10.40am yesterday for help.

Sub-officer Alan Monk said: "He had worn that jewellery for several years and when he tried to take it off to have it reset he found he couldn't."

Firefighters used a specialist ring cutter, the type used in hospitals when fingers are swollen by injury or illness.
