Firefighters battle blaze at Chatham flats

by Hayley Robinson

A block of flats was evacuated during the early hours of Saturday morning after a fire broke out at Chatham.

Firefighters from Medway and Chatham were called to Ordnance Terrace just before 1am after neighbours smelt smoke coming from one of the flats.

One team wearing breathing apparatus was sent in to deal with the blaze.

Nobody was in the flat at the time of the fire and the property did have a working smoke alarm.

An investigation is under way to find the cause of the fire.
