Firefighters battle barn blaze

FIREFIGHTERS worked for eight hours to put out a massive barn fire when 10 tonnes of hay caught alight.

The fire broke out at around 9pm on Friday at Austen's Farm in Snodland Road, Snodland, near Rochester.

Two pumps from Larkfield and one from Halling were called out and two relief pumps, from Paddock Wood and Maidstone, were called to help after five hours.

A large water carrier was also used to damp down the hay blaze, which filled the 20m by 8m barn.

No people were inside the barn at the time of the fire and nobody was hurt. The fire crews finally left the scene at just after 5am on Saturday .
