Fire repairs affect output at Island factory

A SHEPPEY factory damaged by fire earlier this month will take a month to repair.

Lynda Rapo, spokeswoman for MediChem International at Rushenden Road, said staff are having to work in other parts of the building while repairs take place.

A new roof is needed and it will be a month before the factory is fully operational, she added.

The blaze, which caused £150,000 worth of damage, is thought to have started in an industrial waste bin and is not being treated as suspicious.

The company, which makes disinfectant and sterilisation equipment, was damaged during the fire early on Saturday, June 6.

Staff and volunteers worked over the weekend to ensure that the factory would be open for business on Monday morning.
