Fire destroys cafe in Gravesend

This picture, taken by an amateur photographer, shows the fire which destroyed a community café.

The building in Woodlands Park, Gravesend, caught alight in the early hours of Saturday morning, September 3.

Robin Blackwell was with friends in Gravesend when he saw the fire and took the picture.

Thames-side fire station were called to the scene in Dashwood Road at 1.06am.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said the building was fully engulfed in fire on their arrival and is now completely gutted.

Three fire engines and one height vehicle were sent to the scene and firefighters were tackling the blaze until around 4am.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
