Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue were called to a field on Gas Road in the Milton Regis area of the town just after 11 o'clock this morning.

At the height of the blaze around 35 fire fighters with six fire engines, a water unit and command support vehicle, were needed to tackle the flames.

The field is around 50 acres - the equivalent of 35 football pitches - undergrowth, grass and piled logs were alight.

Three fire engines and crews remained at the scene for several hours to damp down any hotspots.
