Firefighters were needed to cut away a window and doorways to remove the body of a man described as "very overweight".

The alarm was raised in the early hours of Thursday morning amid concerns for the health of a man in his 50s.

He had not been seen around his Margate home for the last two days.

A police spokesman confirmed officers found a body at the flat.

Fire crews removed two doors and a window to remove the body using a specialist height vehicle.

Police stress there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a post mortem examination will be held.

The man’s body was finally taken away from the house shortly before 8.30am.
