Fine for speeding motorist

A woman has been fined almost £500 for speeding after she was caught during a roadside check.

The operation was put in place in Warmlake Road, Chart Sutton, after police were told that speeding was a concern to those living nearby.

Sharon Simpson, 42, of Five Oak Lane, Staplehurst, was found guilty of exceeding the speed limit after she was caught travelling at 52mph in the 30mph zone. She was fined £467 with £50 costs by Maidstone magistrates. Her licence was also endorsed with six penalty points.

PC Stuart Thomas of Maidstone Rural Neighbourhood team comments: “Local officers are committed to ensuring that the rural roads of Mid Kent area are safe for everyone.

“Working in partnership with the volunteers of Chart Sutton Speedwatch, local knowledge and intelligence is used to help target the right locations at the right times.

“This allows the police to use their time and powers most effectively to reduce speeds around the villages of the area.”
