Fighting gorillas among park's top snaps

Gorillas fighting and relaxing featured among winners of the Totally Wild photographic contest run by Howletts or Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks.

People were invited to submit pictures of the animals at either park.

The judges, professional photographers Dave Rolfe and Vic Sharratt, picked Martin Eldridge’s eye-catching photograph of a silverback in trees as the overall winner.

Mr Eldridge’s prize is a VIP trip around Port Lympne accompanied by Mr Rolfe, who will pass on tips and techniques.

Joint runners-up David Batchelor, who submitted a portrait of a tiger, and Nicholas Godsell, who caught a rare moment of two western lowland gorillas fighting, will enjoy a VIP trip around Port Lympne with Mr Sharratt.

The under 16s category was won by Jessica Wright, 13, with a study of a giraffe browsing on foliage. She will spend the day alongside an animal keeper at Port Lympne.

Details of this year’s competition will be on www.totallywild.net/photocompetition in the next few months.
