There’s been more than a little flutter of excitement in the Kent property market this summer, says Janet Burnell, sales and marketing director of Pentland Homes.

With all the excitement of the Olympics and Paralympics, there’s been a recognisable shift in the British feelgood factor.

Even the belligerent sceptics have got behind the events and seemingly enjoyed them!

We’ve found that this optimism has also spread into the local property market, which for this time of year is uncommon, as the holiday season is traditionally rather quiet.

Over the last three weeks, we’ve agreed three sales and had considerable amount of interest in two new developments coming to the market shortly. It seems to me, that when there is good news, people are more confident in making those life changing decisions and commitments.

One thing I’ve also noticed accompanying the nation’s feelgood mood, is community spirit. There was a real sense of communities being proud, and wanting to celebrate together. At our site in Hawkinge, households came together and held mini street parties – it is so rewarding to see developments come to life after years of creating them!

The flurry of activity is set to continue, we are to expect high numbers of athletes and visitors coming to Brands Hatch to participate in or watch the Paralympic cycling events which are coming up. Not only will this be great for our local economy but also raise Kent’s profile.

Many people benefit from living in the countryside and with easy access to London and the main ports, Kent is a desirable place to live and work.
