TWO workers were today treated for possible skin contamination after a chemical leak in Strood.

Fire crews and an incident support unit were sent to Asahi Logistics on the Knights Business Park shortly before 11am when factory workers complained of feeling nauseous when unloading a lorry from China. The lorry contained 18 200 litre drums of an undisclosed corrosive chemical liquid.

About 50 firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, with six appliances were called to the factory in Knight Road.

Police and ambulance crews were also at the scene. Staff in some nearby business premises were evacuated. No one else was hurt. Firefighters worked with staff from Asahi to make the lorry's load safe.
