A Herne Bay woman who died in a serious crash on the A299 Thanet Way on Saturday has been named.

Laura Lyddon, 19, from Beltinge, was airlifted to hospital by the Kent Air Ambulance after the collision on the London-bound carriageway around 11.40am.

She is understood to have been unconscious at the scene and only one vehicle was involved in the accident.

Her passenger, a 21-year-old man, also from Herne Bay, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the QEQM Hospital in Margate.

A quick-thinking member of the public managed to get both casualties out of the car by the time crews arrived.

The road was closed between the St Nicholas-At-Wade roundabout and Reculver for several hours on Saturday to allow officers from Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit to carry out a thorough investigation.

The road was eventually reopened around 5pm.
