FA Cup and Ryman League round-up

FA Cup fourth qualifying round

Maidstone are out of this year's FA Cup but can hold their heads up high after taking AFC Wimbledon of Blue Square South all the way in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.

A crowd of around 1,700 saw the visitors win by just a solitary 32nd minute goal at Bourne Park - Sam Hatton scoring from close range after a good move involving Danny Kedwell and Anthony Finn.

The Stones had chances of their own - the best of which fell to Meshach Nugent in the first half, but he shot high over Andy Little's bar when he should have at least made the keeper work.

Dartford enjoyed a magnificent victory away at Tooting & Mitcham, who started the day in third place in the table.

Cody McDonald gave the Darts the lead on the stroke of half-time when he netted at the second attempt after his initial shot had been saved - and Rob Haworth turned in from close range to seal the points 16 minutes from time.

The one blemish for the visitors came after just four minutes when Danny Barker - making his debut after signing from Boreham Wood - suffered a serious-looking knee injury.

Dover stretched their lead at the top of the table to six points with a comfortable 3-0 win at Canvey Island.

Frannie Collin bagged the first 10 minutes before the break after Sammy Moore had headed a Matt Fish centre back across goal.

The second came on the hour when Alan Pouton led a Whites breakaway and played in Shaun Welford who rounded the keeper to net. And Moore got on the end of John Keister's 85th-minute cross to complete the scoring.

Ramsgate picked up a point but will be disappointed they couldn't hold onto all three after conceding an injury-time equaliser at Southwood.

All the goals came in the second half - the first coming from Steffan Ball on 62 minutes.

The Rams received another boost 10 minutes later when former Margate player-manager Robin Trott was dismissed after picking up a second booking - but it was the home side who scored the next goal, Billy Bricknell levelling.

Ryan Royston restored the advantage soon afterwards but Nick Davis's handball gave Joe Flack the chance to grab a second equaliser from the penalty spot at the death.

Tonbridge also had to settle for a point after taking the lead against Boreham Wood at Longmead.

Carl Rook capitalised on a bad kick out by Wood keeper Anthony Ansted to give the Angels a 76th-minute advantage - but Leon Archer stole a point four minutes from time, rifling home after Tonbridge had failed to clear a rare attack from the visitors.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Margate who lost 1-0 at home to Wealdstone.

The only goal of a game lacking any real quality came in the 69th-minute when a left-wing cross was somehow allowed to travel all the way across the Gate box and Ryan Ashe chipped in from just inside the area.

Troubled Folkestone gave themselves a much-needed boost with a 2-0 win over Corinthian-Casuals at the BUzzlines Stadium.

In what will be several players' last game's for the club, Jimmy Corbett opened the scoring in the 28th-minute when he followed up to net from inside the six-yard box after his initial lob had been half saved.

Matt Bourne lashed home the second 10 minutes after the break as Invicta remained second in the table.

Whitstable climbed the table after they came from behind to beat Crowborough Athletic 2-1 at Belmont.

The Oystermen were second best in the opening 45 minutes and it was no surprise when Gavin Gordon took advantage of some slack defending to give the visitors a 35th-minute lead.

But Whitstable rallied after the break and Ian Pulman levelled just after the hour mark, converting the rebound after his first effort had been saved.

The winner came 11 minutes from time when Dan Whisker latched onto Rob Thomas's fine pass from deep, kept ahead of two defenders and held his nerve to beat the keeper.

Sittingbourne dropped to eighth place after suffering their first away league defeat at Eastbourne Town.

The Brickies took a 54th-minute lead when Richard Brady walked the ball into the net - but two goals in 11 minutes late on from Chris Dicker and James Norwood turned the result around.

Sittingbourne have now thrown away a lead in three of their last four matches.

Claude Seanla got Ashford's goal as they drew 1-1 with Croydon Athletic at Homelands.

But it was a very poor day for Cray Wanderers who were heavily beaten 4-1 at Worthing.

The best it got for Cray was the Andy Alexander own goal that got them back to 1-1 on 51 minutes - but Scott Kinch's dismissal for a second booking at 3-1 ended any faint hopes of the visitors coming away with anything from the game.

Ryman League Division 1 North

Thamesmead enjoyed a comfortable home victory over Maldon Town.

Ricky Cable set Keith McMahon's side on their way when he finished well from close range 10 minutes into the second half

And Lewis Wood made it 2-0 on 80 minutes after being put through by a fine Peter Smith pass.

But Chatham suffered their second consecutive reverse as they went down 1-0 at home to Hillingdon Borough.
