Archaelogists have unearthed a stretch of Kent coastline dating back more than 2,000 years.

The "thrilling new discovery" at Richborough Roman Fort near Sandwich is two miles inland from today's coastline.

Experts from English Heritage who found the coastline during a month-long dig in the area have described the find as "exciting" and "unexpected".

The team has also discovered a stretch of collapsed Roman wall and a number of smaller artefacts including Roman coins and fragments of Italian marble, believed to have formed part of a triumphal arch built to mark the Conquest of Britain.
