Event succeeds despite the weather

TEN of 21 hot air balloons made it into the cloudy skies above Leeds at the weekend.

They were followed on their journeys by classic cars given the task of recovering the pilots and crew.

The Great Leeds Castle Hot Air Balloon and Vintage Car weekend attracted 11,000 visitors to the tourist attraction, near Maidstone.

The vehicles included rare and restored Bentleys and Rolls Royces which the castle's special events manager, Richard Millward said proved a big hit with the crowds.

He said: "The weather has been very changeable but the cars and the balloons drew the visitors in despite that."

Other attractions included falconry displays, Gurkha parades, a parachuting display by the London Fire Brigade and a dog and duck show - where a sheep dog rounded up a gaggle of geese.
