Euro debate should be lively

EDWIN Boorman, chairman and chief executive of the Kent Messenger Group, is to chair what promises to be a lively business debate on the euro.

The debate on the motion: "The UK should adopt the Euro currency" takes place at the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel, Bearsted, on Friday February 22.

Jill Cochrane, chairman of the Kent branch of the Institute of Directors, will speak for the motion. Matthew Knight, a Tunbridge Wells-based solicitor and council member of Business for Sterling, will speak against.

The event is the second this year hosted by Kent Executive Club on the subject of the single European currency. Last month, Eric Sepkes, vice president of Citibank, set the scene by describing the practical aspects of the euro's launch across Europe.

Club spokeswoman Linda Gemmell said: "This issue could be a turning point in UK history, so come along and take the opportunity to express your views, question the experts, and share your own practical experiences."

The event starts at 8pm and costs £10, including wine and coffee or tea. Details from Linda Gemmell on 01622 820271.
