Those with suspicious minds found it hard to believe, but it was true.

Hotel guests were all shook up when they evacuated their rooms to be met by the King of rock and roll.

But he wasn't lonesome - he was surrounded by a group of Elvis Presley impersonators.

A DJ's smoke machine triggered the fire alarm on Saturday night during a charity Elvis gig at the Holiday Inn, Maidstone Road, Rochester.

Organiser Katie Mosey, 29, said: "It was certainly a talking point. I think the people who got dragged out of their rooms were a bit stunned when they saw us all in the car park."

The gig for cancer charity Macmillan featured Elvis lookalike Lee Jackson (pictured left) and similarly-dressed guests in full rhinestone costumes.

Firefighters were called and gave the building a quick check before giving it the all-clear.

Ms Mosey, from Hoo, added: "There were probably about 70 people there. Everybody loved it."

Organisers are still collecting funds for Macmillan. To donate visit www.macmillan.org.uk.
